The annual Silent Vigil for those who have experienced violent crime is Wednesday, April 22nd, at 6 PM in Gough Park. National Crime Victims’ Rights Week 2015 focuses on “Engaging Communities. Empowering Victims.” The entire community, individually and collectively, has a role in supporting victims of crime and empowering them to direct their own recovery. “When we learn how to meet the needs of underserved victims, and as we help new communities understand the impact of victimization and the assistance that is available, we expand options for victims. Victims become empowered to direct their own path to becoming survivors.” This National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a victim service and criminal justice response that assists all victims of crime and to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for those community members, victim service providers, and criminal justice professionals who are committed to improving our response to all victims of crime so that they may find relevant assistance, support, justice, and peace.
